Lyrics

WHERE WERE YOU?

Great Things Take Time

The old man saw the fallen tree
As far more than just dead wood
For love, time and his old sharp knife
Could change that tree to something good
So each piece of bark he stripped away
Using only his weathered hands
To find the scent of sweet sticky pine
Just the wood for this master's plan

Soon free from bark this naked tree
Cried out for new design
But the patience of the old man
Reminded him that great things take time

So he had a vision in his mind
Of what he wanted that tree to be
And he saw that tree as perfect and good
Before he touched a single piece
So he took the tree back to his home
And he set it on his working stone
And he began to chip away, chip away
And soon he did not feel so all alone

The tree began to take shape
Oh, his heart began to smile
But he knew he still had work to do
Because he remembered that great things take time

Some pieces of the wood were stubborn
And some just cut as easy as the air
But he didn't care how long it took to make each part complete
Yeah the time he took just showed how much he cared
How much he cared

Now perhaps in your fearful forest
You've found that you have fallen down
Don't be sad, don't be scared, no do not be afraid
Because there is one who can pick you up off the ground
You see if your destiny is to be carved into a perfect thing
Then life does not begin until you die to the way your living (repeat)

You are the One (chords)

When I was down, you picked me up
And put me back on my feet
And when you saw my empty cup
You filled it for free

I am not afraid of the darkness
I am not afraid of facing the truth
Because I'm sitting here resting
Safe in the arms of you

You are the one who walks beside me
You are the one holding me close
You are the one who lives inside me
You are the one I love the most
You are the one who still accepts me
After all the things I've done
In me a new life has begun
Because you are the one

There are so many things, that I'm ashamed of
When I think of you
But not one of them keeps me from your love
Because you're so true

And I am not afraid of disaster
I am not afraid of what it can do
Because I'm sitting here resting safe in the arms of you

(chorus)

The Best for Me

She's got the kind of nerve
To stand up in my face
She's not afraid to speak up
And put me in my place
She's got this thing about her yes she does
She tells the truth with love
One in a million is an insult
She's unmatchable

That is why she is the best for me
Nobody else can come close you see
I'd walk to Rome for her company
Anytime

I'm not the kind of guy
Likes to hear when I've been wrong
But I drink her every word
Because she sings my Savior's song
She stands up for what she believes
She's got good reason for all that she does
She makes a rainbow look black and white
She's better than beautiful to me

(chorus)

Where Were You? (chords)

Where were you when I was treated like a criminal?
Where were you when I came to show you how?
Where were you when they said I was not believable?
And where are you now?

Where were you when I was living in a virgin?
Where were you when I made the master plans?
Where were when my hands healed like a surgeon?
And where do you stand?

Where were you when I was killed for being innocent?
Where were you when I walked out of my grave?
Where were you when I was lifted up into the sky?
And where were you when I came to save?

Where were you when I created everything there is?
Where were you when there was no such thing as time?
Where were you when I defeated all that's evil?
And where are you when I see you

Every moment of the day
And all throughout the night?
There is nowhere you could stray
Where you would leave my sight
Where you would leave my sight

(Repeat first verse)

Every Step of the Way (chords)

Looking at my life I see you've been there
Even when I've thought I was beyond a prayer
People come and people go, but you stay the same
You are the only one that I care to claim

I know it hurts you when I run from you
Forgive me when I try
And thanks for never saying goodbye

Every step of the way I see that you've been with me
And I know that you will never let me go
Every step of the way I see that you've been with me
And I know I'll never be alone
Because you'll be there for me

I remember ten years ago when I thought there was no love
I came to find I was out of my mind, and now I'm thinking of
The times when you were calling me to come home
I'm glad you did because now I'm not alone

(Repeat bridge)

(Repeat chorus twice)

Suicide

I thought that you were gonna leave
Check out from this world
It seems that life's not been going your way
Looking for the easy way out
To leave this world behind
You've got to get out of this bind

Suicide ain't no way to die
Suicide, we weren't meant to decide
When we should leave

Why would you choose to die?
Does it hurt that bad?
You've got to see past the pain
Because there is nothing you could ever do
That God cannot forgive
But you've got to choose to live

(chorus)

(bridge)

Real

He's got this thing for another girl
She pretends like she doesn't care
He's got her hook, line and sinker
A broken love is all that they share

She'd do anything to keep him near
He only stays to play the game . . . wondering

Is it real ?

She can't make up his mind
He's going to do what he wants to do
Oh, he takes up all of her time
Even though he's rarely around

Love based on comfort only goes so far
After that it is pain, pain, pain . . . Oh,

Is it real ?

Dear Old Dad (chords)

As a child she remembers bits and pieces
But most of it she's chosen to blockout
Because daddy treated her the right way
He didn't understand what loving was about

So she's opened her heart to the whole world
Hoping someone will come and ease the pain
She's on the edge of a fatal decision
And she's drowning in the middle of the rain

She's looking for the love she never had
Looking for the love she missed from dear old dad
The world is out to get her
And she is left fading away

She starves herself to meet a certain standard
Because the world says she's got to look so good
Her heart is being eaten on the inside
And she'd do anything to change it if she could

See a father's love is something that we all crave
But something that so few of us receive
It's funny that so many feel forgotten
When all we've got to do is just believe

(chorus)

Now even the best dads fail sometimes
Being human they can only do so much
If we can't rely on them to be perfect
It must mean that we were made for Holy touch

That's why Jesus is the Love we've never had
He is the Love and Way to dear old Dad
He is out to love us
Yes he is out to love us
You'll never go hungry when you put your trust in Him
He is out to love us, and take us to a place of peace and rest

Marry Me (chords)

I knew the moment I first saw you
Our love was meant to be
It was only a matter of God's time
My instincts said to marry you
And patience said to wait
But I knew to let you go would be a crime
Well I've seen so many places
And I've seen so many smiles
And you are the only one for me
I know what grace is
Because I've walked a million miles
And after that my Jesus set me free

So won't you marry me, I'm down on my knees
And carry me through the peaks and valleys
Pray with me, walk with me through this life
I'm asking you to be my wife

I can't wait to share my life you
I can't wait to make love
I can't wait to give you all I've got to give
A three way communication

And sweet compromise
I can't wait for God to show us how to live
I'll be with you forever
And I know you feel the same
There ain't no sense in getting married any other way
And I hear sweet music
At the sound of your name
I hope I never have to live another day without you so . . .

(chorus)
